CVE-2023-50186Network attack vector

Code execution via unchecked AV1 metadata length

Published May 3, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Heap-based buffer overflow in GStreamer gst-plugins-bad before 1.22.8 allows remote attackers to execute code via a malformed AV1 stream. The AV1 codec parser fails to validate metadata length before copying user-controlled data into a fixed-length buffer. A target application must process the crafted stream through the library; successful exploitation runs code in the current process, while failed attempts can crash it.
