Authenticated root command execution via unsanitized URL
Published Jan 1, 2024 · Updated Apr 17, 2025
OS command injection in reNgine before 2.1.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands as root through the WAF detector. The WafDetector API view inserts the url query parameter into a wafw00f command and invokes subprocess.check_output with shell=True without neutralizing shell metacharacters. Any authenticated account with a valid session ID can reach the endpoint, gaining root command execution inside the web service container.
