CVE-2023-4996

Service interruption via unchecked user control code

Published Nov 6, 2023 · Updated Sep 5, 2024

Improper permission validation in Netskope Client 100 and earlier allows local users to terminate the NSClient service via a crafted package. A Windows ServiceController invokes user control code without validating caller permissions, while that code retains authority to stop the service. A non-admin local account can therefore disable endpoint traffic steering and protection until the service is restored.
