Challenge-Response bypass via recoverable shared key
Published Dec 25, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Authentication bypass in BeyondTrust Privilege Management for Windows before 2023-07-14 allows attackers to forge response codes locally. The Challenge Response implementation stores an encrypted per-configuration shared key in the configuration file and decrypts it into process memory, exposing it to algorithm reversal or debugger access. Administrative privileges and disabled Agent Protection are required, and a recovered key permits bypass on other endpoints sharing the configuration.
