Arbitrary file overwrite via modified sbcast groups
Published Dec 14, 2023 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Incorrect access control in SchedMD Slurm 22.05.x and 23.02.x allows remote attackers to open files with unauthorized group permissions. The sbcast subsystem accepts a modified extended-group list from an RPC and uses it when opening the requested file instead of enforcing the caller's authorized groups. Network reachability to the affected RPC path is sufficient, and exploitation permits file access or overwrite under group identities the attacker does not hold.
