CVE-2023-49599Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Admin account takeover via predictable recovery encryption salt

Published Jan 10, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025

Insufficient entropy in WWBN AVideo commit 15fed957fb allows remote attackers to take over the admin account through forged recovery codes. install/checkConfiguration.php initializes the encryption salt with PHP uniqid(), whose time-based output can be narrowed from the unauthenticated Gallery plug-in creation timestamp and brute-forced offline. After obtaining a known-plaintext encrypted value and the installation path, an unauthenticated attacker can derive the AES key, forge the administrator's recovery token, and reset that account's password.
