Account takeover via identical password-reset codes
Published Jan 10, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Weak password recovery in WWBN AVideo commit 15fed957fb allows remote authenticated users to reset another user's password. The createRecoverPass() routine encrypts only an expiration timestamp, so simultaneous requests for two accounts produce the same recovery code. A basic account and synchronized requests are required; substituting an administrator's username in the attacker's emailed link enables the administrator password to be replaced.
