CVE-2023-49463Public exploit

Application crash via oversized EXIF offset

Published Dec 7, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Out-of-bounds EXIF parsing in libheif 1.17.5 allows context-dependent attackers to crash heif-convert with a crafted image. The JPEG encoder reads an offset from the first four EXIF bytes and advances a pointer by that unchecked value even when it exceeds the EXIF buffer. A user or application must process the crafted file with the example conversion tool; Debian reports no security impact beyond that tool crash.
