Local data manipulation via predictable temporary files
Published Dec 14, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Insecure temporary file handling in Ubuntu Budgie Budgie Extras 1.4.0 through 1.7.0 allows local users to manipulate Window Shuffler state. Window Shuffler creates and monitors predictable paths under /tmp, trusting attacker-created files or FIFOs as intercomponent state without per-user isolation. Local account access and a concurrently running victim session enable false GUI state, disabled rules, application hangs, or memory exhaustion.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
