Cross-site scripting via unescaped HTML proxy URL
Published Dec 4, 2023 · Updated May 29, 2025
Cross-site scripting in Vite 4.4.0 through 4.4.11, 4.5.0, and 5.0.0 through 5.0.4 allows remote attackers to inject HTML. server.transformIndexHtml incorporates an unmodified request URL into a generated html-proxy script source, letting query delimiters close the tag and add attacker-controlled markup. Exploitation requires appType custom, default HTML middleware, an inline module script, and a user who opens the malicious URL; restricted files remain inaccessible.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
