Improper integrity validation in Moxa NPort 5000 Series firmware allows remote authenticated users to take device control through updates. The firmware update and upgrade path performs insufficient integrity checks before accepting an image, allowing manipulated firmware to replace trusted device code. Administrative privileges and network access are required; successful installation grants control of the appliance and can alter or interrupt serial-network functions.
