CVE-2023-49251Network attack vector

Root takeover via unauthorized credential enrollment

Published Jan 9, 2024 · Updated Nov 14, 2024

Authorization bypass in Siemens SIMATIC CN 4100 before 2.7 allows remote authenticated users to add credentials and gain root access. During the intermediate installation state, the device accepts attacker-chosen login credentials without ensuring that the authenticated user may create them. Low-privileged network access during that state is sufficient, and the added credentials remain usable after setup completes, enabling full device control.
