CVE-2023-49223Public exploit

Root password disclosure via world-readable DES hash

Published Jun 7, 2024 · Updated Sep 13, 2024

Hard-coded credentials in Precor P82 Touchscreen Console firmware allow remote attackers to recover the root password. The firmware places the same DES-based root password hash in world-readable /etc/passwd, and researchers cracked it in under 24 hours. Exploitation requires access to a console update package; researchers found no login path that accepted the recovered password on installed equipment.
