CVE-2023-49147Public exploit

SYSTEM command shell via MSI repair race

Published Dec 19, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Local privilege escalation in PDF24 Creator 11.15.1 and earlier allows local users to open a SYSTEM command shell through MSI repair. During repair, pdf24-PrinterInstall.exe runs as SYSTEM and writes faxPrnInst.log while exposing a command window; an oplock keeps that window open for command execution. Exploitation requires an MSI-based installation, low-privileged local access, and a browser other than a current Edge or Internet Explorer default.
