Local privilege escalation via DLL search-order hijacking
Published Feb 26, 2024 · Updated Feb 13, 2025
DLL search-order hijacking in Qognify VMS Client Viewer 7.1 and later allows local users to execute code with elevated privileges. VMS_Client.exe requests missing DLLs through the Windows search order and loads a planted CRYPTBASE.dll from an attacker-writable search directory. Exploitation requires low-privileged directory write access and a local administrator to start the FAT client, after which the DLL runs with elevated rights.
