CVE-2023-49062Network attack vector

Kernel-memory disclosure via uninitialized IPv4 identifier

Published Nov 28, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Improper initialization in Meta Katran before commit 6a03106ac1eab39d0303662963589ecb2374c97f allows remote attackers to read kernel memory. The create_v4_hdr and send_icmp4_too_big paths call bpf_xdp_adjust_head and then emit IPv4 headers without initializing the Identification field. Network traffic that reaches IPv4 encapsulation or ICMPv4 Packet Too Big generation can expose two bytes of prior kernel memory in the outgoing header.
