Contact modification via unprotected update request

Published Sep 10, 2023 · Updated Sep 26, 2024

Cross-site request forgery in SourceCodester Contact Manager App 1.0 allows remote attackers to alter contacts through update.php. The update.php handler accepts a contact identifier and replacement fields from POST data, then executes an SQL UPDATE without validating a CSRF token or request origin. A victim must submit an attacker-forged request while able to use the application; the request changes the selected contact record.
