CVE-2023-48427Network attack vector

Privilege escalation via unvalidated UMC server certificate

Published Dec 12, 2023 · Updated Nov 25, 2024

Improper certificate validation in Siemens SINEC INS before V1.0 SP2 Update 2 allows remote attackers to intercept UMC credentials. The UMC client connection accepts a configured server certificate without proper validation, enabling an on-path impersonator to read submitted credentials and alter authentication responses. Exploitation requires UMC authentication to be configured and control of its endpoint or traffic path; manipulated responses grant elevated privileges.
