CVE-2023-48402

Local privilege escalation via missing permission check

Published Dec 8, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Elevation of privilege in Android kernel allows local users to gain higher privileges via ppcfw_enable on affected Android kernel builds. The ppcfw_enable function in ppcfw.c omits a required permission check, allowing a low-privileged local process to invoke the protected operation. Exploitation requires an existing local user context but no additional execution privileges or user interaction, and can grant broad kernel-level confidentiality, integrity, and availability impact.
