CVE-2023-4828Network attack vector

Authenticated agent traffic hijack via condition mishandling

Published Sep 13, 2023 · Updated Sep 24, 2024

Improper exceptional-condition handling in Proofpoint Insider Threat Management Server before 7.14.3.69 allows agent traffic hijacking. During an exceptional condition, the server accepts an attacker-chosen communications URL when changing an already-registered agent's configuration; Proofpoint has not named the responsible endpoint or failed check. Remote authenticated users need valid agent credentials and its hostname; future monitored PII and intellectual-property events can then be read, altered, or deleted in transit.
