CVE-2023-48232Public exploit

Editor crash via unchecked zero-divisor calculation

Published Nov 16, 2023 · Updated Jun 23, 2026

Floating-point exception in Vim before 9.0.2107 allows local users to crash the editor through crafted window and scrolling state. adjust_plines_for_skipcol() divides the skip-column offset by the calculated text width without first ensuring that the divisor is greater than zero. The crash requires smooth scrolling, the non-default n flag in cpoptions, a narrow bordered window, and a wrapped line continuing at the border.
