CVE-2023-48229

Memory corruption via unchecked radio-frame payload length

Published Feb 14, 2024 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Out-of-bounds write in the nRF IEEE 802.15.4 radio driver in Contiki-NG 4.9 and earlier allows physically proximate attackers to corrupt memory. The read_frame function accepts an attacker-controlled payload length that passes the MTU check but can exceed the supplied destination buffer before the frame is copied. Exploitation requires a crafted IEEE 802.15.4 radio frame sent to an nRF-based device and can corrupt adjacent memory, affecting data integrity, confidentiality, or availability.
