Stored DOM XSS via paired message fields
Published Dec 21, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stored DOM XSS in SmarterTools SmarterMail 8495 through 8664 allows remote authenticated users to execute script in webmail. The message-processing path skips its XSS protection when a request supplies both messageHTML and messagePlainText, leaving a crafted email body stored. A mailbox user must submit the crafted fields and another user must view the stored message; the script then runs in the viewer's browser context.
