Update-metadata manipulation via disabled certificate validation
Published Nov 16, 2023 · Updated Aug 14, 2024
Improper certificate validation in HTTPie CLI 3.2.2 allows man-in-the-middle attackers to alter update-check responses. The internal _fetch_updates function requests packages.httpie.io/latest.json with verify=False and saves the returned release metadata. The behavior runs only during the periodic update check; user-request TLS still honors certificate verification, so the bounded effect is a forged update notice rather than exposure of request data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
