CVE-2023-48025Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Memory disclosure and crash via malformed symbol

Published Nov 17, 2023 · Updated Aug 29, 2024

Out-of-bounds read in Liblisp through commit 4c65969 allows attackers to disclose memory or crash the interpreter via a malformed symbol. In eval.c, get_length treats a SYMBOL cell as if it has a second pointer slot and returns x->p[1].v without validating that the slot exists. Exploitation requires a consuming application or user to pass attacker-controlled Lisp input to the interpreter; the demonstrated result is an out-of-bounds read and process abort under AddressSanitizer.
