Contributor-level stored XSS via unescaped shortcode attributes
Published Nov 20, 2023 · Updated Sep 4, 2024
Stored XSS in Magic Embeds before 3.1.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute script through crafted shortcode attributes. The fb_plugin video shortcode inserts unvalidated autoplay and width values into page output without escaping, allowing event-handler markup to persist. Contributor-level access is required to store the payload, and script executes when another user views the affected page or post.
