Contributor-level stored XSS via shortcode attributes
Published Oct 16, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024
Stored XSS in Fullworks Plugins User Avatar - Reloaded before 1.2.2 allows remote authenticated users to inject scripts through avatar shortcodes. The avatar shortcode renderer places attacker-controlled link and target attributes into generated anchor markup without adequate sanitization and output escaping. Contributor-level access is sufficient to save the payload in a post; the script runs when a reviewer opens the post and hovers over the injected element.
