Stored XSS via unescaped shortcode id attribute
Published Oct 16, 2023 · Updated Apr 23, 2025
Stored XSS in Hoosoft Magee Shortcodes 2.1.1 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute script in a visitor's browser. The ms_alert shortcode outputs its id attribute without adequate validation or escaping, so a quote can terminate the attribute and add an onmouseover handler. Contributor-level permission to publish the crafted shortcode and a visitor who renders and interacts with the affected post are required.
