Sensitive-data disclosure via unrestricted system-property APIs
Published Nov 9, 2023 · Updated Sep 3, 2024
Information disclosure in Telit Cinterion BGS5, EHS5/6/8, PDS5/6/8, ELS61/81, and PLS62 allows local users to read sensitive data. The embedded Java runtime's Configuration.getSystemPropertiesNames and Configuration.getSystemProperty methods expose all environment-variable names and values to an unprivileged user MIDlet, including the native MIDlet-storage path. Exploitation requires the ability to install or execute low-privilege MIDlet code on the embedded module; the demonstrated consequence is disclosure of internal system data.
