CVE-2023-4759Network attack vector

Arbitrary file overwrite via unchecked symlink parents

Published Sep 12, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Path traversal in Eclipse JGit 6.6.0.202305301015-r and earlier allows attackers to overwrite files outside a working tree. DirCacheCheckout, ResolveMerger's WorkingTreeUpdater, and PatchApplier fail to validate every parent path as a real directory before writing. Exploitation requires a case-insensitive filesystem, enabled symbolic links, and a user allowed to create them; a redirected write can install a Git filter that executes on a later Git command.
