Contributor stored XSS via unsanitized shortcode attributes
Published Nov 8, 2023 · Updated Apr 28, 2026
Stored XSS in Bainternet ShortCodes UI 1.9.8 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to execute scripts in browsers via crafted shortcode attributes. The plugin stores shortcode attribute input without sufficient sanitization or output escaping, so injected markup executes when a page containing the shortcode is viewed. Contributor-level or higher WordPress access is required, and exploitation depends on a user opening the injected page; impact is script execution in that viewer's browser.
