Local crash via overflowing duration comparison
Published Sep 1, 2023 · Updated Sep 19, 2024
Integer overflow in GPAC before 2.3-DEV allows local users to crash MP4Box by DASH-packaging a crafted media file. In mp4_mux_initialize_movie, a duration comparison multiplies media-derived numerator and denominator values as signed integers, allowing wraparound before a double-free. Processing the file with MP4Box -dash is required; the demonstrated consequence is a local process crash, with no public evidence of code execution.
