CVE-2023-4721Public exploit

Service crash via short MPEG sequence header

Published Sep 1, 2023 · Updated Sep 19, 2024

An out-of-bounds read in GPAC before 2.3-DEV allows local users to crash MP4Box by processing a crafted MPEG program stream. MPEG12_ParseSeqHdr subtracts six from an unsigned buffer length without first rejecting inputs shorter than six bytes, causing its scan loop to read beyond allocated memory. Triggering it requires MP4Box to process attacker-controlled media; the demonstrated result is a heap-buffer-overflow read and process crash.
