Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unchecked AJAX option update
Published Jan 2, 2025 · Updated Apr 29, 2026
Missing authorization in ByConsole WooODT Lite 2.4.6 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to modify arbitrary site options. The AJAX-hooked byconsolewooodt_admin_fields_setting_files() function updates attacker-selected WordPress site options without checking the caller's capability. Subscriber-level access is sufficient, and changing security-sensitive options enables elevation to Administrator privileges.
