Denial of service via unlimited YAML alias expansion
Published Nov 13, 2023 · Updated Jan 8, 2025
Uncontrolled resource consumption in Remarshal before 0.17.1 allows remote attackers to interrupt conversion using crafted YAML aliases. The YAML conversion path recursively traverses expanded anchor aliases without limiting the resulting node count. Exploitation requires a deployment that accepts attacker-supplied YAML; resource exhaustion can stop the conversion process without affecting data confidentiality or integrity.
