Account takeover via unchecked peer password change
Published Jun 23, 2025 · Updated Jun 26, 2025
Broken access control in NCR Terminal Handler 1.5.1 allows remote attackers to take over peer accounts through UserService. The UserService SOAP API accepts a password-change POST for another user without requiring that user's current password or enforcing ownership. An unauthenticated network request can reset only an account in the same security group, enabling access as that account.
