Authenticated privilege escalation via invalid JWT acceptance
Published Sep 1, 2023 · Updated Oct 1, 2024
Privilege escalation in Memos before 0.13.2 allows remote authenticated users to impersonate another user via a malformed access token. JWTMiddleware consumes parsed JWT claims without checking accessToken.Valid, so an invalidly signed token still supplies the request's user ID. A low-privileged account and an existing higher-privileged user ID are sufficient to obtain that user's access to notes and administrative functions.
