Remote service crash via oversized multiget prefix
Published Oct 27, 2023 · Updated Sep 9, 2024
Buffer overflow in Memcached before 1.6.22 allows remote attackers to crash proxy-mode servers via malformed multiget requests. In proto_proxy.c, proxy_process_command copies a pre-key command prefix into a fixed stack buffer without first limiting the parsed key offset. Exploitation requires proxy mode and an oversized run of spaces after get; the resulting stack corruption interrupts the service.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
