Process crash via stale XML entity state
Published Aug 31, 2023 · Updated Sep 19, 2024
NULL pointer dereference in MP4Box in GPAC before 2.3-DEV allows local users to crash the process through a crafted XML-based input file. In gf_xml_sax_parse_intern, an unresolved XML entity is treated as text without clearing the parser's entity state, causing subsequent processing to pass a null string to strlen. A local user must cause MP4Box to parse the crafted file; the demonstrated result is abnormal termination, not code execution.
