CVE-2023-4682Public exploit

Crash via repeated malformed AVI frame read

Published Aug 31, 2023 · Updated Sep 19, 2024

Heap buffer overflow in GPAC before 2.3-DEV allows local users to crash MP4Box by processing a crafted AVI file. The AVI_read_frame path leaves video_pos unchanged when avi_read fails, so malformed frame data triggers an oversized fread into a heap packet buffer. Exploitation requires MP4Box to process attacker-supplied media; the published proof of concept demonstrates a process abort, not code execution.
