Arbitrary code execution via firmware filename injection
Published Oct 24, 2023 · Updated Sep 11, 2024
Command injection in TOTOLINK A3700R Firmware 9.1.2u.6165_20211012 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted FileName value. The UploadFirmwareFile handler fails to neutralize shell metacharacters in FileName before invoking a command, so a semicolon-delimited value runs an injected shell command. The published request targets /cgi-bin/cstecgi.cgi and includes a management-session cookie; successful exploitation grants command execution with the router service's privileges.
