Code execution via undersized SWF JPEG header
Published Mar 9, 2024 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Heap-based buffer overflow in GPAC 2.3-DEV-rev588-g7edc40fee-master allows remote attackers to execute code or crash MP4Box via a crafted SWF file. The SWF JPEG handler accepts a one-byte JPEG header, subtracts two from its unsigned size, and passes the underflowed length to gf_fwrite, causing an out-of-bounds heap read. Exploitation requires the target to open the malicious file or access a malicious page; successful abuse can crash the process or execute code.
