SMTP credential disclosure via readable registry file
Published Nov 30, 2023 · Updated Sep 20, 2024
Cleartext credential storage in all versions of LOYTEC LINX-212 and LINX-151 allows remote attackers to read SMTP client credentials. The firmware writes SMTP client account secrets in plaintext to registry.xml, whose insecure permissions expose the stored values remotely. No authentication or user interaction is required, and the disclosed credentials permit access to the configured mail service.
