CVE-2023-46253Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Remote code execution via unsanitized backup asset ID

Published Nov 7, 2023 · Updated Sep 4, 2024

Path traversal in Squidex before 7.9.0 allows remote authenticated users to execute operating system commands via backup restoration. The BackupAssets.ReadAssetAsync flow passes an unsanitized asset ID from AssetCreatedEventV2 into FolderAssetStore.GetFileName, which writes the asset outside its intended app directory. The squidex.admin.restore permission is required; successful exploitation grants command execution on the underlying server.
