CVE-2023-46246

Editor crash via oversized history range

Published Oct 27, 2023 · Updated Jun 23, 2026

Integer overflow in Vim 9.0.2067 and earlier allows local users to crash the editor through an oversized :history range argument. get_list_range stores parsed values as long integers but casts them through integer pointers without rejecting values above INT_MAX, leading to a use-after-free in ex_history. Exploitation requires executing a crafted Vim script or command locally; the documented consequence is a Vim process crash with no confidentiality or integrity impact.
