CVE-2023-46213Network attack vector

Browser code execution via unescaped log characters

Published Nov 16, 2023 · Updated Feb 28, 2025

Cross-site scripting in affected Splunk Web versions allows attackers to execute JavaScript in a user's browser through crafted log data. The Show syntax highlighted view renders attacker-controlled characters from an indexed log event without effective escaping. Exploitation requires high-privileged access to place or expose the crafted event and a user to open it in the feature; execution can read or alter data available to that browser session.
