Root command execution via File Manager chmod injection
Published Dec 8, 2023 · Updated Nov 26, 2024
OS command injection in MGT CloudPanel 2.0.0 through 2.3.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute commands as root. The File Manager invokes chmod on an attacker-controlled file reference without neutralizing command syntax, enabling ownership changes and mode 4755. A lowest-privilege CloudPanel account and network access to the File Manager are sufficient for root-level command execution without user interaction.
