CVE-2023-46131Network attack vector

JVM crash via unsafe reflective data binding

Published Dec 20, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Uncontrolled resource consumption in Grails Core allows attackers to crash the JVM through crafted data-binding requests. The SimpleDataBinder allowlist accepts the properties and metaPropertyValues names and MetaProperty or CachedMethod types, letting request input traverse reflective metadata until resources are exhausted or an exceptional JVM failure occurs. Exposure requires a Grails application using request-data binding in a published affected range; the bounded consequence is an application-wide service interruption.
