Local crash via invalid plugin API index
Published Feb 2, 2024 · Updated Nov 4, 2025
Out-of-bounds read in Graphviz 2.36.0 through 9.x before 10.0.1 allows local users to crash Graphviz via a crafted config6a file. The libgvc config parser converts an invalid API token to -1 and passes it as an unsigned index to gvplugin_install, which reads outside the plugin API array. Reaching the flaw requires replacing a config6a file that is typically owned by root, so impact depends on local write access and is limited to the invoked Graphviz process.
