CVE-2023-45868Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated file disclosure via traversable rename parameters

Published Oct 26, 2023 · Updated Aug 2, 2024

Path traversal in the exercise module in ILIAS 7.25 allows remote authenticated users to expose server files by moving directories. The file-rename handler passes attacker-controlled old_name and new_name POST values to PHP rename() without confining the source path to the exercise upload area. An account allowed to edit an ILIAS learning-module exercise can relocate web-server-readable directories into the document root, exposing their contents and making them unavailable at their original paths.
